PRAIRIE VIEW - Looking to halt an early-season skid, Prairie View A&M women's basketball team returns to action Saturday afternoon as the Panthers welcome Wiley College for a 3 p.m. tilt in the Baby Dome.
The Panthers (1-4) are looking to snap a four-game slide. Last time out, Prairie View A&M dropped an 83-48 decision at Arizona on Nov. 20. Graduate transfer Tatyana Perez led the team with 12 points, her third game of the season where she has scored in double figures and second such outing against Power 5 opposition. Freshman Kennedi Heard established a new career high in points (nine) along with five rebounds against the Wildcats.
Perez is tied for the team lead with senior Bernesha Peters in scoring at 11.2 points per game. Peters also leads the team in assists (2.2) and steals (1.8) per game, sharing the team lead in the latter category with senior Dominique Newman. Senior Ke'Asia Williams paces the team in rebounding at 6.2 boards per night.
The Panthers are 10-2 in their last 12 non-conference home games, boasting a 3-1 record under coach Sandy Pugh.
Scouting the Competition:
- Wiley College (0-4) is in search of their first win of the season, most recently dropping a 65-64 contest to Langston University on Nov. 14.
- Guard Brianna Tolliver is shooting 46.2 percent from beyond the arc and leads the team in scoring at 15.0 points per game. Additionally, Tolliver paces the team in assists (3.5) and steals (2.3) per game. Armonie Lomax is another top option on offense, averaging 12.5 points per game.
- Wiley College has lost its last three contests against Southwestern Athletic Conference member schools.
