PRAIRIE VIEW - Following a near two-week layoff, Prairie View A&M basketball is back in action Wednesday evening as the Panthers head to the desert for its first game of December, a clash versus Arizona State.
Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. CST (8 p.m. local time) from the Desert Financial Arena.
This marks the second Pac-12 opponent of the season for the Panthers (3-5), who played Cal on Nov. 18, limiting the Bears to their second-lowest scoring output of the season.
Prairie View A&M comes into Wednesday's contest in search of its third straight win of the season. A victory would mark the program's longest non-conference winning streak under coach Byron Smith.
In the Panthers' most recent contest -- a 79-72 win over Texas-San Antonio -- Senior Gerard Andrus led the charge with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow senior Darius Williams scored 15, and junior Lenell Henry posted his first double-double as a Panther with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Andrus leads the Panthers in scoring at 14.6 points per game to go with 5.6 rebounds while shooting a blistering 56.3 percent from the floor. Leading marksman Chancellor Ellis is second in scoring at 12.3 points a night, and the senior has connected on 45.3 percent of his tries from beyond the arc. Henry is averaging 8.6 points, a team-high 8.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
Scouting the Competition:
- Arizona State (6-2) is riding a three-game winning streak and are 3-0 at home. Remy Martin leads the Sun Devils in scoring at 19.9 points per game and is one of three Arizona State players averaging double figures in scoring.
- Rob Edwards (12.0 PPG; team-best 40.9 3PT%) and Romello White (11.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG) are also solid offensive options for the Sun Devils. White has posted double-doubles in each of Arizona State's past two games.
- Since a season-opening loss to Colorado, the Sun Devils have stiffened up defensively, having allowed 59.4 points per game to opposing teams, going 6-1 over that span.
