Men's Basketball Wrap up Non-Conference Road Play at Seton Hall

12/21/2019 6:15:00 PM

Newark, N.J. - Prairie View A&M men's basketball concludes the road portion of its non-conference schedule with a Sunday afternoon clash at Seton Hall. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. CST (4:30 p.m. local time) at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The Panthers (3-8) enter the fray looking to shake off an 83-64 setback at Colorado where the Panthers were within five of the Buffaloes with less than nine minutes left before a cold snap derailed the Prairie View A&M offense.

Seniors Gerard Andrus and Devonte Patterson scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Panthers offense. Patterson has scored in double figures in each of the past three games, while Andrus -- the team's leading scorer at 13.5 points per game -- has surpassed 10 or more points in six straight contests.

The Panthers have spent most of their time on the western side of the map during non-conference play, but this will be the second trip to the east coast this season. Prairie View A&M will look to reverse a forgettable trend of five straight losses in the Eastern Time Zone.

Scouting the Competition:
- The Pirates are 7-4 on the season -- with three games versus ranked opposition -- but are coming off a 52-48 upset victory over No. 7 Maryland. Seton Hall's top two scorers were inactive in the win over the Terrapins due to injury. The Pirates rank 33rd nationally in defensive efficiency and have limited opponents to 65.1 points per game.

- Myles Powell -- who did not play in Seton Hall's win over Maryland -- leads the team in scoring at 21.2 points per game. When available, Powell is considered one of the nation's best guards, garnering preseason All-America honors as well as the Big East Preseason Player of the Year distinction.

- Sandro Mamukelashvili (10.9 PPG, 4.7 RPG) -- also inactive in Seton Hall's most recent outing -- and Quincy McKnight (10.3 PPG, 4.1 APG, 3.0 RPG) are the Pirates' secondary offensive options. With Powell and Mamukelashvili's availability in question, McKnight may assume primary scorer duties.
