PRAIRIE VIEW - Prairie View A&M women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh announced the addition of four student-athletes during the early signing period. They will suit up for the Panthers in the 2020-21 season.
Joining the Panthers next season will be post players Trinity Curry, Trinity Hudson and Jasmine Dixon, guard Allana Thompson, with all but Hudson hailing from the state of Texas. With each player standing at 5-11 or taller, the newest signees should bring more size and length to the Panthers over the next four years.
"This year, Texas had a phenomenal class of athletes, and we focused our recruiting efforts here," Pugh said. "I think we achieved every recruiting goal. This class is amazing - great students, families, athletes and teammates. They will represent PVAMU well for the next four years."
Allana Thompson | G | 5-11 | Katy HS (Katy, Texas)
Thompson has help to lead Katy High School to a pair of District 19-6A championships over the last three seasons and was named the area's offensive MVP following her junior season. A do-it-all, versatile weapon on the perimeter, Thompson projects to be an impressive two-way player for the Panthers.
"She has already been admitted to PVAMU... you better guard Allana when she crosses half-court," Pugh said. "She can shoot the three-ball deep, off the screen and the spotup. She leads her team in scoring, assists, rebounds and steals. She can play the three and guard all positions. The night we saw her, she dropped 32 points. The kid can score, and at 5'11 she gives us a big guard on the win who can score and defend."
Jasmin Dixon | P | 6-3 | Klein Forest HS (Houston, Texas)
A second-team selection to the All-District 15-6A team as a junior, Dixon projects as a long, imposing force on the inside with surprising athleticism and strong defensive prowess. According to Stanley O'Bryant, Dixon's AAU coach, she's only scratching the surface of her talent and exhibits a knack for attacking the ball from a defensive and rebounding perspective.
"She is a competitor. She never backs down," Pugh said. "Her ability to block shots, finish around the rim and run the floor will be a nice addition to this 2020 class."
Trinity Curry | P | 6-5 | Kinkaid HS (Houston, Texas)
At 6-5, Curry has already made history before stepping foot on the Hill as she will be the tallest player Pugh has ever coached. A dual-sport athlete -- she also played volleyball but will focus on basketballat Prairie View A&M -- Curry stands to become a true difference maker in the paint. The Houstonian has been lauded for her work ethic and leadership skills by her high school coaches. According to Pugh, Curry may be the steal of the class as she represents a defensive "game-changer" for the Panthers going forward.
"Her size, great hands and her work ethic is unmatched," Pugh said. "Trinity has flown under the radar ... she's a winner on and off the court. We are thrilled that she chose PVAMU."
Trinity Hudson | P | 6-4 | eStem Public Charter HS (Little Rock, Ark.)
Hudson rounds out the early haul as another interior presence who can finish around the rim or from mid-range. One of the better athletes and movers of the Panthers' newest additions, Pugh said Hudson's energy and maturity made her a standout that fit the Panthers' culture.
"Size, length and athleticism are a must in the Division I game, and Trinity brings that to us," Pugh said. "She is very mature for her age and will be a major player in the future of Prairie View A&M women's basketball. Trinity told me to bring it on ... she wants to be pushed and she wants to develop her game to her fullest potential. I love her tenacity."
