PRAIRIE VIEW - After a week-long layoff, Prairie View A&M women's basketball returns to friendly confines as the University of Florida comes to town for a 7 p.m. tilt Thursday night in the Baby Dome.

The Panthers (2-5) will be playing their second Southeastern Conference opponent, and third Power 5 conference foe in the last four games.

Prairie View A&M will look to shake off its most recent outing, an 80-38 loss to then No. 6 Texas A&M. Despite the result, it was a banner night for freshman Kennedy Paul, who set career-highs in points (15) and rebounds (9) during the game.

The Panthers have shown themselves to be a diverse offense, as five different players have led the team in scoring over the first seven games of the season.

Senior Bernesha Peters continues to lead the Panthers in scoring at 10.3 points per game, and graduate transfer Tatyana Perez leads the team in total points (63; 9.0 PPG) and assists per game (2.4) while shooting a team-best 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. On the glass, senior Ke'Asia Williams sets the team standard with a 6.7 nightly average.

This marks the second-ever meeting between the two teams.

Scouting the Competition:
- Following an 84-40 victory over Florida A&M in its most recent game on Dec. 1, Florida comes into the contest with a 5-2 record. The mark is the program's best start since the 2016-17 campaign. That season, the Gators opened with a 6-1 start. Both of Florida's losses this season have come to ranked opponents (No. 18 Indiana, No. 12 Florida State).

- The Gators have three players with a scoring averaging in double-figures. Leading the way is junior guard Kiara Smith at 13.7 points per game, followed by freshman Lavender Briggs (13.2 PPG) and senior Zada Williams (11.7 PPG). Sophomore Ariel Johnson is fourth in the team in scoring at 9.4 points a night but is currently on a five-game streak with 10-plus points scored.

- This will be the second time Florida has tangled with a SWAC opponent this season. The Gators upended Grambling State 72-65 on Nov. 5.
