BEAUMONT, Texas – The Prairie View A&M baseball team completed game one of the 2019 Cardinal Classic hosted by Lamar, falling 15-2 to Central Michigan Friday afternoon at the Vincent Beck Stadium.
Central Michigan opened the game with two runs in the second inning and added two more runs in their half of the fourth.
The Panthers were able to get on the board in their half of the fifth frame. Junior first baseman
Mark Kirkland reached base on an error to be the first Panther on base. Junior catcher
Dalton Horner hit a triple to center field scoring Kirkland for the first run.
Kyle Davis scored Horner off of a sac fly to give the Panthers their second run of the game. Horner led the Panthers with two hits,
Alex Martinez,
Evan McDonald, Davis and
Brian Williams all recorded hits for the PVAMU.
Central Michigan scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and sealed the game with three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 15-2 victory.
Horner and Davis both recorded an RBI. Kirkland led the team with six put outs, Demarie' Smith recorded five put outs followed by McDonald and Horner with three put outs.
Tyler Laux pitched three innings after facing 19 batters leading the Panthers pitching with two Strikeouts.
Prairie View will continue day two of the Cardinal Classic Saturday with another match up with Central Michigan at Noon.
