Panthers Win Streak Snapped By in Town Rivals Texas Southern

BOX SCORE HOUSTON - The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell 90-95 to Texas Southern on Saturday, snapping the team's 10-game win streak.
 
The Panthers opened the first half on a 4-0 run led by junior forward Devonte Patterson. Following was a layup by junior guard Gerard Andrus that pushed the team's lead 6-1. Another bucket from Patterson made the score 8-4, before back-to-back three pointers from redshirt junior guard Chancellor Ellis and Patterson lifted PVAMU 14-6 over TSU.  After trailing for the first time in the first half, another three pointer from Ellis restored the team's lead at 19-18 with 14:01 remaining.
 
Both teams were tied at 28, and a layup from Andrus pushed the team ahead 33-31. Another three pointer from C. Ellis tied the game at 38, before a layup from graduate guard Taishawn Johnson gave the team a 40-38 lead with 5:58 left in the half. The Panthers went on a 6-0 run, ending on a made jumper from Andrus that put the Panthers up 45-43.
 
PVAMU went on a 7-0 run to end the half leading 53-45. Patterson led the team with 15 points.
 
Back-to-back layups from Patterson in the first minute of the second half extended the Panther's lead 57-45 over TSU. The team went on a 14-0 run, ending on layup from Andrus to give the team a 71-50 lead at the 13:46 mark. A made jumper from redshirt senior Dennis Jones pushed the Panthers lead to 73-55, while senior guard Gary Blackston followed with a made three pointer to extend the team's lead to 76-57.
 
Another three pointer from C. Ellis gave PVAMU an 82-66 lead with 8:50 remaining in the game. A layup by Jones at the 7:37 mark pushed the team ahead 84-68. After a scoreless five minutes by the Panthers the teams were tied at 84.  With over two minutes left in the game a final tie came at 86, before PV regained a 90-86 lead off of four straight made free throws by Jones.
 
The Panthers eventually fell 90-95 in the closing seconds of the game.
 
Patterson led the team with 21 points and three rebounds. C. Ellis followed behind with 20 points shooting 6-10 from around the arch. Jones contributed with 17 points, and six assists
 
The Panthers will continue their three-game road trip at Jackson State on Saturday, Feb. 16 for a 5 p.m. tip in Jackson, Miss.
