PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M baseball team was unable to keep up with the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions, as the Panthers dropped their home opener 17-2 on Friday at Tankersley Field.

The Golden Lions struck quickly as they posted five runs off of PV's starter Tracy Warren. UAPB continued its scoring frenzy as they posted four more runs in their half of the second to extend the score 9-0.

Dalton Horner got the scoring going as he hit his first home run of the season to give the Panthers their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

UAPB added six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 15-1 lead.  They extended their lead by adding two more runs in the top of the sixth to give the Golden Lions a 17-1 lead.

The Panthers were able to strike once again to add a second run in the bottom of the seventh.  Daniel Lingua opened the frame with a free base to first on a walk.  Avery Williams was hit by pitch to earn another free base for the Panthers.  Alex Martinez singled down the middle scoring Lingua and advancing A. Williams, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Lions took a 17-2 victory to close out the first game of the three game series.

Although Warren took the loss he was able to strike out three players out of the 15 batters he faced.

Prairie View A&M will return to action as they play game two Saturday for a 12 p.m. start at Tankersley Field.
