PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The Prairie View A&M softball team did not miss a beat, as they swept Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Jackson State in a pair of wins to extend their win streak on Saturday at the PVAMU Softball Field.

"This was a good weekend," head PVAMU softball coach
Vernon Bland said. "We did what we set out to do. Our goal is to win every series, and to get the sweep.  That's pretty hard to do in this conference. So I'm really proud of the girls. They came out and handled their business."

With the wins against the Tigers (7-26, 2-5), Prairie View A&M has improved to (18-7, 6-0 SWAC) and extended its winning streak to 11 games. Today's game was dedicated in support of Epilepsy.

The Lady Panthers played a disciplined two games against the Tigers, committing only one error during the doubleheader, but four errors came back to haunt JSU.

PVAMU, 11 – JSU 1
Freshman
Diavionne Dewalt was walked in the first inning, before a triple from senior
Shelby Williams brought her in for the Lady Panthers first run of the game. Senior
Destinee Williams singled to third base, and senior
Laurisa Hernandez followed with a walk. A single to right field from junior
Cameron Lavergne allowed both D. Williams and S. Williams to come home for the team's 3-0 lead.

A home run from Dewalt then scored PV's lone run of the second inning.

With the bases loaded in the third inning, three players were able to touch home plate on three straight walks due to being hit by pitches. PVAMU led 7-0.

A double RBI from S. Williams in the fourth inning, allowed freshman
Jayla Richard and freshman
Jeah Williams to come in to extend the PV's lead to 9-0. A single to center field from Hernandez then brought in Dewalt and Williams for the final scores of the game.
Jackson scored their lone run in the top of the fifth, for a final score of 11-1

Pitches Vanessa Castro took the win, allowing only two hits on 18 batters faced. Castro struck out a season high of four batters and allowing only one walk through the five innings.  D. Williams was 3-for-3 from the plate, while
Cameron Lavergne was 2-for-3 with three RBI.Â

PVAMU, 8 – JSU, 1
The defense was at a premium as the Lady Panthers only allowed one run. Â
Crystal Castillo earned her eighth win of the season, striking out two, and allowing three hits on the day.

S. Williams gave the Lady Panthers their first run of the first inning, due to a wild pitch. Freshman
Serena Antone doubled to left field, allowing Hernandez to touch home for the team's early 2-0 lead.

After a wild pitch, S. Williams also brought in a run for PVAMU in the fifth inning.

With all the bases loaded, an RBI by Hernandez brought in freshman
Bianca Cruz for a score. A double down the left field line from freshman
Kaila Lee allowing both D. Williams and S. Williams, for a 5-1 lead over JSU. Both Hernandez and Lee followed with runs off of wild pitches for the team's final runs of the game.

S. Williams and Lee both had two hits. Lee and Antone both had two RBI.

The Lady Panthers will return to the field on Wednesday, March 27 at 3 p.m. to face Stephen F. Austin.
