MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a battle from beginning to end the Prairie A&M women's basketball team lost their second Southwestern Athletic Conference away game of the regular season 67-59 in overtime against Alabama State on Monday, in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The game opened with two back-to-back three point shots by senior guard
Shala Dobbins taking a 6-0 lead for the Lady Panthers in the first quarter. Dobbins followed with a layup and gave PV an 8-2 lead. A jumper from senior center
Artavia Ford pushed the team ahead 10-4 at the 6:39 mark. PVAMU trailed by two, until another three pointer from Dobbins allowed them to regain a 13-12 over ASU. The team went into the second quarter leading 15-14, on a made jumper from junior forward

Another set of three pointers from senior guard Sierra Shepard and junior guard
Dominique Newman gave PVAMU their first points of the second quarter, and a 21-14 lead. The team trailed by one, until a made free throw from Ford tied the game 22-22 with 3:55 left in the half.
The teams tied three times in the closing minutes of the period, before the Lady Panthers went into the half trailing 30-28. Dobbins led the team with 11 points.
Dobbins tied the game 30-30 with a layup at the 8:27 mark of the third quarter. The teams tied at 31-31, then again at 34-34. PVAMU trailed by as many as four, before a jumper and foul shot from senior guard
Chelsea Tieuel restored their 39-38 lead. Tieuel followed with a three pointer to keep the team ahead 42-40. PV tied the game 44-44 on two made free throws from Dobbins going into the fourth quarter.
A layup from Newman helped the team regain a 46-44 lead in the opening seconds of the period. Ford followed with a layup to break a 46-46 tie, for a 48-46 Lady Panther lead. PV trailed by three until a layup from Dobbins brought the deficit down 51-50 at the 6:04 mark. Senior guard
Erin Willis tied the game 52-52 with a made jumper, then Ford followed with a shot of her own to tie the teams' at 54. A jumper by Williams tied the game 56 to send the teams into overtime.
PVAMU trailed by four, before a made layup and foul shot from senior forward
La'Neique Nealey brought the team within reach at 60-59 with 1:42 left in OT. However, PV was unable to capitalize and eventually fell 67-59.
Dobbins led the team with 18 points, five steals and two rebounds. Ford followed behind with 16 points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Tieuel contributed with six points.
The Lady Panthers will return home to face Southern in the first of their last two games of the regular season, on Thursday, March 7 at 5:30 in the Baby Dome.
