Baseball Falls to Texas A&M Corpus Christi in Midweek Contest

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The Prairie View A&M baseball team dropped their match to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday at Tankersley Field.

The Panthers were down by seven runs heading into the third inning after the Islanders posted five runs in the first inning, and two in the top of the second.

A single to left field from freshman Mark Kirkland allowed junior Xavier Jefferson to advance to third base while sophomore Brian Williams came home for the team's first run in the bottom of the second inning. Freshman Daylan Luza singled to right field, allowing Kirkland to advance to third and Jefferson to score. Senior Daniel Lingua followed with a single to right field that ended in a double RBI as both Kirkland and Luza came home for back-to-back scores. There were runners on first and second base, when a home run from freshman Alex Martinez brought Lingua and sophomore Tracey Warren home for the triple RBI and 7-7 tie.

PVAMU went scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning, when a double to center field sent Warren in for a home touch. A groundout allowed Martinez to advance to third base, before a single to the short stop from junior Avery Williams brought in Martinez and cut the team's deficit down 12-9.

After going scoreless in the final two innings, the Panthers eventually fell 17-9.

Martinez and Jefferson had two hits apiece on the day. Martinez also gathered four RBIs, while Lingua followed with two.

Next, the Panthers will return to the road as they prepare to face Grambling State. The teams will play a three game series beginning on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m in Grambling, La.
