Panthers Fall In Late Rally to Texas A&M Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A late start with the bats seemed to be destined for the Prairie View A&M baseball team to an evening win over the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders on Tuesday, but a late rally handed the Panthers a 8-5 loss.

Both teams went scoreless through six innings, it was not until the bottom of the seventh that the Islanders scored their two runs first, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers final scored in their half of the eighth inning, when a single to right field by Calvin Rucker got the bats rolling.  Andrew Garcia was walked before, Demarie Smith reached base on a fielder's choice.  Daniel Lingua hit a solo shot to left field to score Garcia for the team's first run. Freshman Alex Martinez hit a go-head, three-run homer over the left field wall for a triple RBI to take a 4-2 lead.

TAMCC responded in their half of the eighth taking a 5-4 lead.  PVAMU's lone score of the final inning came on a home run to right center by junior Avery Williams.  A three run ninth propelled the Islanders to an 8-5 win.

Martinez had a solid day at the plate collecting two hits on the evening and gathering three RBI.

The Panthers will return home on Wednesday, April 3, when they host the University of Houston-Victoria, Jaguars for a 2 p.m. first pitch at Tankersley Field.
