GRAMBLING, La. - The Prairie View A&M softball team won their Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader action over Grambling State 2-0, winning both games of the three game series on Saturday.

Both teams went scoreless in the first three innings, before the Lady Panthers opened up scoring in the top of the fourth. Senior
Laurisa Hernandez, who is leading the team in home runs this season with eight, hammered one out the park to bring in junior
Gabrielle Fonseca for the double RBI and 2-0 lead.

Grambling responded with two runs of their own tying the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth inning, a single to center field from Fonseca allowed senior
Shelby Williams to advance to third base, while freshman
Jayla Richard came in for a home touch and regained the team's lead at 3-2. A ground out from senior
Destinee Williams brought in S. Williams for PV's last score of the inning.

A single to center field from Fonseca in the sixth inning, ushered in both freshman
Serena Antone and freshman
Bianca Cruz to extend the Lady Panther's lead to 6-3.

Grambling was unable to answer, and PVAMU sealed game one.
Â
Fonseca led the team with three hits and gathered three RBIs. Senior Vanessa Castro took the win with seven strikeouts, and allowing only three hits on 22 batters faced.

The Lady Panthers opened up the scoring in the first inning, starting with a double to left center from freshman
Brelyn Senegal that brought in S. Williams for the team's first run of the game. Following, was a second home run on the day bi L. Hernandez that also brought in Senegal for the 3-0 lead.

Grambling posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and PVAMU answered with a monster run in the top of the fifth. A triple to right field from junior
Cameron Lavergne allowed D. Williams to come home and start off the scoring run. With the bases loaded, Antone was walked and pushed the bases, bringing in Lavergne for another home touch. Another walk repeated the play, ushering in sophomore
Brianna Grays.Â
A single to right center from S. Williams brought in both Antone and freshman
Diavionne Dewalt for the double RBI. D. Williams singled to left center and brought in S. Williams and senior
Kiara Ross for another double RBI, and the 10-2 lead.

In the sixth inning, a single to center field from Ross allowed Antone and freshman
Megan Jimenez to run home for the double RBI. The team's last four runs came off of fielding errors and sealed their 16-5 victory.

D. Williams, S. Williams and Antone had two hits apiece. Ross led with three RBIs. Junior
Crystal Castillo took the win, delivering seven strikeouts and only allowing five hits.

The Lady Panthers will finish up the three game series on Sunday, April 21 at 10 a.m.
