NATCHITOCHES, La. — The Prairie View A&M softball team found themselves on the short end of the stick Tuesday as they lost a pair of games to Northwestern State by the scores of 7-6 and 0-7.
Game 1
NSU, 7 – PVAM 6
The Lady Panthers were down by one as they broke through in the top of the second with PVAMU opening the inning on a single by
Alyssa Garcia to right field.
Cameron Lavergne singled to center field to put two on with one out. On an RBI single to right field by Daniesha Hinton loaded the bases for
Gabrielle Fonseca. A ground out by Fonseca, scored Garcia for the first Lady Panthers home touch.
Shelby Williams singled to third base scoring Lavergne to take a 2-1 advantage over Northwestern State.
The Lady Demons responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, posting three more in the bottom of the third to take a 6-2 lead over the Lady Panthers.
Opening the scoring in the top of the fourth Hinton, singled to second base before being removed from the base pad on a fielder's choice. S. Williams reached base on a fielding error by the Lady Demon's, before back-to-back walks from
Kiara Ross and
Destinee Williams allowed Fonseca to score.
Laurisa Hernandez singled to left field advancing to second on the throw allowing both S. Williams and Ross to cross home plate for the double RBI. A wild pitch scored D. Williams knotting the game at 6-6.
NSU broke the tie with a single run in the sixth inning, while PVAMU went scoreless to close out the game.
Garcia, Lavergne and Hinton each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Game 2
PVAMU, 0 – NSU, 7
The Lady Panthers went scoreless in the second matchup. The team managed to stay within reach, but were unable to answer a string of late NSU runs in the sixth inning.
Lavergne was able to get on base in the top of the seventh inning off of a single up the middle, followed by a single to third base by S. Williams. With runners in position to score the Lady Panthers were unable to capitalize ending the frame scoreless.
Next, the Lady Panthers will face Texas Southern University in a doubleheader on Friday, May 3. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. in Houston.
