MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Prairie View A&M softball team split the day at 2019 Softball SWAC Tournament, on Friday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex, taking a 6-1 win over Alabama A&M and falling 3-2 to Alabama State.

A fly out to center field by senior
Laurisa Hernandez put the Lady Panthers in position to score in the first inning, as senior
Destinee Williams advanced to third base and senior
Shelby Williams came home for the first score of the game. In the next play, junior
Alyssa Garcia was able to reach base on an error, and D. Williams came home for the 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, a double to left center from S. Williams allowed junior
Daneisha Hinton to score and push the team's lead to 3-0. PVAMU continued scoring in the third inning, when a home run by Hernandez advanced the score 4-0.
A double to left field from freshman
Serena Antone, brought in both Hinton and junior
Cameron Lavergne for back-to-back runs and a 6-0 lead in the fifth inning.
Alabama A&M posted one run in the sixth inning, but wasn't able to capitalize in the final innings before PVAMU took the win.
Hinton went 4-for-3 at bat, leading the team with two runs. S. Williams went 4-for-2 at bat with one hit and one RBI. Senior Vanessa Castro (10-4) took the win delivering five strikeouts and allowing only six hits.
Alabama State, 3 – PVAMU 2
Both of the Lady Panther runs came in the second inning, when a home run by Antone brought in Hinton for a 2-0 lead.
Alabama State posted three back-to-back runs in the fourth inning off of walks. Both teams then went scoreless in the final innings of the game, as PVAMU fell 3-2.
D. Williams went 3-for-3 at bat, and Hinton went 2-for-2 at bat with one hit. Junior
Crystal Castillo (12-4) delivered eight strikeouts and allowed on six hits.
