Soccer Looks to Rebound at Texas State Sunday

8/24/2019 11:51:00 AM

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Rebounding from Thursday's season-opener is the first order of business for the Prairie View A&M soccer team as it heads to San Marcos Sunday for a contest at Texas State. First touch from the Bobcat Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m.

The Lady Panthers are coming off of a 5-0 loss to Houston Baptist, a game marred by an inability to capitalize on chances, according to PVAMU soccer coach Sonia Curvelo

"We were disappointed in Thursday's game against Houston Baptist," Curvelo said. "I thought we were the better team, but we made a few mistakes that led to goals, but we controlled the middle and we had some missed opportunities."

The second-year head coach said she would like to see more intensity from her bench in Sunday's match.

"The quality team that we have and the couple coming off the bench are really good," Curvelo said.  "We are young but we hope to exploit more opportunities in the final third and find the spaces in between the defenders and also behind them.  We are hoping to add another player to Sunday's game that didn't get a chance to play on Thursday."

Last season's meeting between the teams resulted in a 3-0 win for the Bobcats, with PVAMU sophomore goalie Quinn Josiah making six saves.

The Lady Panthers are predicted to finish fourth in the conference. Additionally, the team earned two preseason all-conference selections in Jojo Bernal and Alexis Mack, who garnered first-team and second-team consideration, respectively.

Texas State returns 20 players from last season's Sun Belt regular season champion. The Bobcats opened the 2019 campaign with a 1-0 win over Incarnate Word on Friday.

Live stats will be available for the contest here.
