SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a physical, defensive struggle, the Prairie View A&M soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Texas State Sunday afternoon.
The setback drops the Lady Panthers to 0-2 on the season, while Texas State improves to 2-0.
Prairie View A&M was out shot 15-3 by the Bobcats, who had seven looks on goal compared to two for the Lady Panthers. Sophomore net minder Quinn Josiah was up to the task in her season debut for Prairie View A&M, making six saves.
Texas State struck early in the fray, capitalizing on a corner kick in the ninth minute. Seconds after the play, Genesis Turman converted on a deflection for the Bobcats' lone score of the game. Prairie View A&M managed to keep the Bobcats from adding to its lead the rest of the way but the Lady Panthers were unable to generate enough chances to knot things up.
Redshirt junior Ashley Chala had one shot on goal for Prairie View A&M, as did senior Gina Zavala De Rojas. Texas State's Kaylee Davis led all players with five shot attempts.
The Lady Panthers will have a week off from competition before returning to the pitch for a September 1 date at McNeese State. First touch is set for 1 p.m.
