LAKE CHARLES, La. -- The Prairie View A&M volleyball team fell in straight sets during non-conference action at McNeese State Tuesday evening. The final scores were 16-25, 16-25 and 12-25.
"Unfortunately it was a very tough match for us tonight," said head PVAMU volleyball coach TaCho Tyler.  "We had way too many unforced errors, we weren't disciplined and we didn't come to play."
The Lady Panthers opened the contest with a quick 3-0 spurt to begin set one, but McNeese responded with a run of five unanswered points that ultimately led to Prairie View A&M trailing by as many as 11. The Lady Panthers cut into the Cowgirls' lead, getting within six, but were able to get no closer during the final moments of set one.
Up 8-6 early on in the second set, Prairie View A&M's momentum was derailed with a 5-0 surge by McNeese. From that point, the Lady Panthers stayed in striking distance for much of the frame before the Cowgirls managed to pull away and go up two sets to none. Despite back-and-forth play during set three, Prairie View A&M was unable to sustain an offensive charge down the stretch of the final frame.
Junior middle blocker Victoria Pearson led the team with five kills, two digs and one block. Junior outside hitter Tamaira Armstrong followed with eight digs and three kills. Freshman right side hitter Cydni Miller also contributed with three kills.
"In order for us to be prepared for Wednesday's game against Northwestern State, we need to mentally decide what team we want to be," Tyler said.  "The team who has aggressively played teams to five sets or be the team who isn't mentally disciplined. Hopefully tonight was a lesson learned-that every game matters."
The Lady Panthers will look to bounce back when they face Northwestern State on Wednesday, September 18 for a 1 p.m. first set in Natchitoches, La.
