PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Following a near two-week layoff, the Prairie View A&M soccer team returns to action this weekend as it opens up Southwestern Athletic Conference play with home dates versus Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State.

The Lady Panthers will take on the Devilettes at 7 p.m. Friday, which has been deemed at Youth Night and will face Alcorn State at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will emanate from the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

Though the recent stretch of play between Mississippi Valley and Prairie View A&M has gone the Lady Panthers' way – Prairie View A&M is 2-0-1 versus the Devilettes over the last three season, outscoring MVSU 7-1 over that span – the teams have historically been evenly matched. Currently, the head-to-head record sits at 5-5-2 dating back to 2010.

However the Lady Panthers have dominated the Lady Braves as of late, and the home team seeks its eighth-straight victory over Alcorn. Prairie View has averaged better than six goals per game during their seven-game winning streak over the Braves.

Sophomore goalie Quinn Josiah and junior goalie Alexis Espino have teamed together to form one of the league's top duos at the net. The tandem has stopped .789 percent of the shots they've faced this season and have surrendered 12 goals on the year, and both marks are good for second-best in the league.

Scouting the Competition:

- Mississippi Valley State (1-4-1) is coming into the Friday's match off of a similar two-week layoff. The Devilettes are looking to snap a three-game skid over which they've allowed an average of five goals per game. Four different players have found the twine for the team this season, and Beatriz Kretteis and Shay McCool lead the team with three points each. Goalie McKenzie McCarthy has been the most active netminder in the league, having made a league-leading 72 saves this season (12 per match).

- Pending its result versus Texas Southern on Friday, Alcorn State heads into the opening weekend of SWAC play at 0-6. Lauren Souflard and Christina Grybos have each scored a goal for the Lady Braves. Alcorn has used a two-goalie rotation, with Kali Helms leading the team with 53 saves.
