BOX SCORE BEAUMONT, Texas — The Prairie View A&M volleyball team finished out the 2019 Katrinka Crawford Invitational with a 3-0 loss to South Dakota State University on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers took an early 5-0 lead to open the first period, until South Dakota responded with a 5-0 run of their own and tied the set 5-5. PVAMU quickly fell behind allowing the Jackrabbits to take a 10-8 lead, but two quick kills pulled the Lady Panthers ahead by one (11-10). The teams were tied at 11-11 before another South Dakota run left PV behind at 20-12. The set was capped off with 25-17 win in favor of the Jackrabbits.

The teams tied three times coming into the second set, the latest coming in at 5-5, before Prairie View took an 8-5 lead over SDS. The set was kept tight down the stretch, when a late 3-0 Jackrabbit run helped edge the Lady Panthers taking set two.

PVAMU trailed throughout the entire third set, and was unable to get out of a slow scoring patch before falling 25-15.

Junior outside hitter Tamaira Armstrong led the team with 11 kills, seven digs and one assist. Junior middle blocker Victoria Pearson followed with five kills and one dig. Freshman outside hitter Alexis Marion also contributed with four kills and four digs.  Freshman Skyla Childs had 24 digs in the contest and was named to the all-tournament team.
