BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — The Prairie View A&M volleyball team dropped their home matchup against Abilene Christian University, 3-1 on Sunday in the Baby Dome.
Head coach
TaCho Tyler said the team needs to improve on both sides of the ball.
"We need to stay consistent," she said. "We need to stay consistent offensively and defensively when it comes to blocking."
The Lady Panthers came out strong in the first set, and took an early 3-0 lead. The set was tied at 4-4 before PVAMU pulled forward at 7-6. The team held a lengthy lead throughout the period, despite a late Wildcat rally, and took the first set win 25-21.
PVAMU continued their fast play into the second period as they took a 6-0 lead over Abilene Christian. They led by as many as seven points until late down the stretch, when the Wildcats came back and took the second set 27-25, tying the match 1-1.
Prairie View held another lead in the third set before a 15-15 tie allowed Abilene Christian to make a 4-0 run and take a 19-15 advantage. The Lady Panthers were unable to make a dent in the deficit before falling 25-19.
A low scoring period to open fourth set hindered a PVAMU comeback effort late in the fourth set. They eventually fell 25-14, losing the match 3-1.
In preparation for their next matchup, Tyler said the team needs to focus on closing out matches.
"We really need to learn how to finish," she said.
Junior middle blocker
Victoria Pearson led the team with 11 kills, four blocks and one assist. Freshman outside hitter
Alexis Marion also posted 11 kills, along with two blocks and one assist. Senior
CeTara Carter also contributed with nine kills, one assist, and one block adding one dig.
Next, the Lady Panthers will face the Wildcats again during the Abilene Christian Tournament on Friday, Sept. 13 in Abilene, Texas.
