PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M women's basketball heads east in search of its first Southwestern Athletic Conference win, as the Panthers take on Grambling State and Jackson State in a pair of league tilts.

Prairie View A&M (3-12, 0-3 SWAC) faces Grambling State (2-13, 1-3 SWAC) on Jan. 18 in Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center at 3 p.m. From there, the Panthers take on Jackson State (6-8, 4-0 SWAC) on Jan. 20 in the Lee Williams Athletic Assembly Center, with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.

The Panthers took a 88-65 loss to Texas Southern last time out in a game that was closer than the score suggests, as the Panthers were within five of their arch-rivals with less than eight minutes left to play.

Freshman Diana Rosenthal had one of her best games of the season against Texas Southern, leading the team with 15 points. Fellow freshman Kennedy Paul added 14 points, as did graduate transfer Tatyana Perez, and senior Dominique Newman scored 10 points.

Senior Bernesha Peters continues to lead the team in scoring at 10.2 points per game.

Prairie View A&M is in the midst of a five-game skid in head-to-head contests versus Grambling State but has won four of the past five meetings with Jackson State.

Scouting Grambling State:
- After opening league play with a win over Alabama A&M, Grambling State has struggled lately, dropping three straight games since.

- Grambling State has been hard to deal with in terms of perimeter defense, limiting opponents to a 27.9 percent mark in three-point shooting.

- Justice Coleman has been impressive for Grambling State, averaging a team-best 13.5 points per game, good for sixth-best in the conference. Junior guard Alexus Holt has impressed in her first season for Grambling, averaging 10.3 points per game.

Scouting Jackson State:
- Jackson State enters the weekend as perhaps the hottest team in the SWAC, riding a five-game winning streak. Each victory has come by double-digits.

- The No. 2 scoring offense in the league (64.4 PPG), Jackson State also leads the conference in rebounding (43.1 per game), field-goal percentage defense (37.3 percent) and blocked shots (4.57 per game).

- Player of the Year candidate Marneisha Hamer leads the way for Jackson State, averaging 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per night. Dayzsha Rogan is another strong offensive option for the team at 12.6 points per game, and Ameysha Williams patrols the inside, averaging 9.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game, the latter tops among SWAC players.
