BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW – After a month-long wait to open the season, the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team was in peak form, cruising past McNeese State 95-73 Wednesday afternoon at the Baby Dome.
How it Happened:
Down 12-8, sophomore
Diana Rosenthal and freshman
Tiffany Tullis helped spark off a 20-7 flourish that powered the Panthers to a 28-19 lead after one. Prairie View A&M overwhelmed the Cowgirls throughout the second quarter, dominating the frame thanks to a 20-3 surge to open things up. After an easy bucket inside by
Tabreea Gandy put the Panthers up 20 midway through the half, the Panthers never looked back. Rosenthal buried a trey as the half came to a close, sending PVAMU (1-0) into the lockers with a commanding 53-25 advantage.
The Cowgirls refused to go quietly, opening the third quarter with a 13-2 run. Prairie View A&M's
Allana Thompson momentarily quelled that rally with a three-pointer to push the Panthers ahead 60-38 midway through the period. PVAMU led by no less than 17 the rest of the way.
Top Performances:
Led by Rosenthal's 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals, 10 Panthers scored during the victory.
Kennedi Heard scored a game-high 18 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting. Tullis scored 15 points, and
Kennedy Paul and Gandy each scored 11.
PVAMU shot 62.4 percent from the floor.
Divine Tanks led McNeese with 20 points.
