BOX SCORE

PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M men's basketball was unable to sustain a spirited effort during a 66-61 loss at TCU Wednesday evening at Schollmaier Arena.

 How it Happened:

The upset-minded Panthers matched TCU salvo for salvo early on, battling the Horned Frogs behind the early efforts of D'Rell Roberts and superior bench production. TCU managed to pull ahead 20-13 with 8:49 to go thanks to a Kevin Samuel dunk, but the Panthers closed the half with a flourish. Cam Mack three-point play sparked a 10-3 run – punctuated by a Jock Hughes three-ball – that tied the game 23-23. The sides traded points until a Jeremiah Gambrell trey with just over two minutes left in the half sent the Panthers to intermission with a 30-29 lead.

After a back-and-forth start to the second half, TCU pulled ahead by as many as five with nine minutes left. Undeterred, the Panthers fought back as Lenell Henry scored inside and Mack tied the game with a three-pointer. The spark was short-lived as the Horned Frogs scrapped together a 12-1 run to go ahead 60-49 with less than four minutes left.

Hughes once again sparked PVAMU with a long ball, and Prairie View A&M managed an 8-0 surge to pull within four. However, that was as close as the Panthers would get.

Top Performances:

Mack scored a team-high 16 points with three rebounds, a pair of steals and a block. Roberts scored 14 points and snagged four rebounds for the Panthers. Henry and Jerroda Briscoe made their presence felt on the interior with a combined 15 rebounds and six blocked shots. Hughes added eight points and seven rebounds.

For TCU, Mike Miles paced the Horned Frogs with 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Kevin Easley scored 14 points. Samuel added 12 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
