NEW ORLEANS –The Prairie View A&M baseball team (0-4) suffered a 10-2 loss to New Orleans Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field to conclude the Andre Dawson Classic.
Junior
Tracy Warren managed to keep the Privateers at bay early on, working out of a pair of early-inning jams as the sides traded scoreless innings. However, the Panthers lost their handle on the affair in the third as New Orleans managed to plate nine runs in the bottom of the third.
Prairie View A&M scratched a run across thanks to a RBI double by junior
Andrew Paige in the top of the fifth, but UNO responded with a run in the bottom of the frame. The Panthers would strike again in the top of the ninth with a RBI groundout by freshman
Jaylon Smith that scored fellow freshman
Zachary Trevino, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Paige led the effort at the plate, going 2-for-3. Warren struck out four in 2.1 innings, and sophomore
Matthew Sandoval was solid in relief, allowing four hits and one run in 5.2 frames of work.
