WACO, Texas – Prairie View A&M softball (3-7) finished runner-up at the Getterman Classic following a 8-3 setback to host Baylor in the championship game Sunday afternoon.

Prairie View A&M was forced into playing catchup quickly, as Baylor jumped ahead with a three-run spurt in the first inning. After the Lady Bears pushed across a run in the third and fourth innings, the Lady Panthers' offense showed signs of life in the fifth.

There, junior Alexis Freeman singled home senior Cameron Lavergne, and sophomore Kaila Lee slapped a two-run double to bring in Freeman and senior Diavionne Dewalt as the Lady Panthers inched within a pair of runs.

However, it was as close as Prairie View A&M would get as Baylor added three runs in the bottom of the sixth for insurance.

Freeman was 1-for-4 with a stolen base, and Dewalt also swiped a bag during the game. In the circle, senior Crystal Castillo allowed two earned runs in 3.0 innings of work.

Lavergne and senior Gabrielle Fonseca were named to the Getterman Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Panthers set out to Nacogdoches, Texas for a Wednesday afternoon tilt versus Stephen F. Austin. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
