BOX SCORE

PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team took down Jackson State 70-61 Monday night during Southwestern Athletic Conference action in the Baby Dome.

Senior Gerard Andrus led the Panthers (14-11, 10-2 SWAC) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Senior Chancellor Ellis added 15 points, all in the first half. Senior Antione Lister scored 11 points.

Behind the hot shooting of Andrus, Prairie View A&M easily shook off an early 6-2 deficit, surging ahead with a 10-0 run. With the Panther defense putting the clamps on Jackson State, Ellis caught fire early with a trio of treys to give the Panthers a 26-13 lead with 7:15 left in the half.

The Panthers continued to pour it on, as another Ellis long ball coupled with three the hard way by Senior Devonte Patterson pushed the advantage to as many as 19 and threatened to run away with it.

However, the Panthers went ice cold from the floor, going the final 4:16 of the half without a made shot. The Tigers (10-16, 7-6 SWAC) took advantage and closed the half on a 17-3 run to cut the Panthers' lead to 37-32 at the break.

The Panthers' frigid stretch carried into the second half, where the Tigers drew within one before senior Antione Lister knocked down a three to break the Panthers' near nine-minute scoring drought and spark a 9-0 run that extended the lead to 10 with 11:49 left.

Another Lister trey helped push the Panthers lead to 13 and with Andrus asserting himself down the stretch, the Panthers had no trouble with the Tigers the rest of the way, leading by at least seven for the final 12:14 of the game.
