PRAIRIE VIEW – Another week, another honor for
Gerard Andrus.
The senior guard was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week following his standout performances in wins over Grambling State and Jackson State. The league office made the announcement earlier today.
The Lafayette, La. native averaged 20.0 points to go along with 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over the course of the week as PVAMU went 2-0 in league play. Andrus scored a game-high 21 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds in the Panthers' 75-69 win over Grambling State and followed with a 19-point, seven-rebound effort on the national stage as Prairie View A&M topped Jackson State 70-61 on ESPNU.
Leading the league with a 55.0 field-goal percentage, Andrus has scored 20 or more points eight times this season and is averaging 14.8 points per game, third-best in the SWAC among qualified players. He is also pulling down 5.1 boards per night and ranks seventh in the league in steals per game at 1.4 swipes per night.
Andrus is the second Panthers player honored by the league office in as many weeks, joining fellow senior
Devonte Patterson, who earned player of the week accolades on Feb. 11.
