PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end Saturday evening during a 69-54 loss against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in H.O. Clemmons Arena during Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
"Something that stood out was the fact that they hit us first, and we didn't recover," Assistant Coach
Sean LeBeauf said. "They came out the gate like they wanted it more than us and you can tell. They're not the bigger team, but they outscored us 42-18 in the paint and that's just all about toughness. They were the tougher team tonight, and they were the more aggressive team."
After a pair of early buckets from senior
Ke'Asia Williams, the Panthers found themselves in an early hole that was ultimately too deep to climb out of. Down 18-6 at the end of one, the Panthers (10-15, 7-6 SWAC) pulled within single digits thanks to a 10-4 run led by freshman
Diana Rosenthal, but UAPB responded with seven unanswered points.
Though senior
Bernesha Peters got a last second three-pointer to fall, Prairie View A&M went into the lockers trailing by 12. The Panthers weren't able to make up much ground in the second half, despite their best efforts.
Williams nabbed a double-double in the loss, posting 14 points, 13 rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block. Rosenthal followed with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals. Freshman
Kennedy Paul also contributed with eight points after going 6-for-6 from the line along with five rebounds, two assists and one block.
