PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M women's basketball continues to fight for home-court advantage in the first round of the 2020 Cricket Wireless SWAC Tournament as the Panthers host Alabama State and Alabama A&M for a pair of key conference matchups

The Panthers (11-15, 8-6 SWAC) face Alabama State (8-17, 5-9 SWAC) Saturday at 3 p.m. From there, Prairie View A&M takes on Alabama A&M (15-11, 11-4 SWAC) the following Monday with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.

Monday has been designated as senior night for the Panthers. Seniors Dominique Newman, Bernesha Peters, Mariah Campbell, Ke'Asia Williams and Tatyana Perez will be recognized during the contest versus the Lady Hornets.

Last time out, the Panthers took a tough loss at UAPB but rebounded in style at Mississippi Valley State. PVAMU has little room for error in its hopes to earn a home game for the first round of the SWAC Tournament, as a pair of wins keeps them in the hunt but a loss may all but assure a road trip to start postseason play.

Panthers News and Notes:
- Dominique Newman is coming off the best offensive effort of her Panthers career, scoring 29 points and knocking down seven threes in the team's win over MVSU.

– Prairie View A&M has won five straight at home and have largely done it through defense, limiting each of those opponents to an average of 51 points per game.

- Bernesha Peters continues to lead PVAMU in scoring at 10.1 points per game. Diana Rosenthal (8.2) and Ke'Asia Williams (8.0) are close behind, with Williams leading the team in rebounds at 6.6 per game.

Scouting Alabama State:
- Alabama State has won three of its last five and is looking to stay in the hunt for a tournament spot. Currently, the Lady Hornets are seventh in standings.

- Alabama State has a trio of offensive threats, led by sophomores Ayana Emmanuel and Jayla Crawford. Emmanuel, leads the team in scoring at 11.4 points per game, and Crawford is close behind at 10.7 points a night. Freshman forward Aniyah Smith has impressed as well, averaging 10.2 points and a team-high 6.0 boards per game.

Scouting Alabama A&M:
- The Bulldogs are the hottest team in the league, having won six games in a row. Four have come by double-digits.

- Dariauna Lewis has put together an all-conference campaign, leading the team in scoring and rebounding at 16.5 points and 9.3 boards per game. DeShawna Harper is second on the team at 13.4 points per game.
