PRAIRIE VIEW – The top two teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference battle it out this Saturday, as Prairie View A&M men's basketball hosts arch-rival Texas Southern at 5:30 p.m. in the Baby Dome.
Prairie View A&M (11-11) and Texas Southern (10-12) are tied atop the standings with identical 7-2 records in SWAC play.
The Panthers look to defend their 21-game home winning streak, a mark that is the second-longest active streak of its kind in the nation. Prairie View A&M seeks to avenge a 71-67 loss to Texas Southern on Jan. 11. Senior
Devonte Patterson was a handful for the Tigers in the loss, putting up 21 points and 11 boards. Senior
Gerard Andrus posted 16 points.
Prairie View is 3-1 in its last four home games versus Texas Southern.
Prior to tip-off, there will be a special banner presentation commemorating the 2019 SWAC Men's Basketball Championship-winning Panthers team.

- The Panthers' defense ranks as the most formidable in the conference, as it is tied for the lowest points-per-game allowance in the SWAC at 69.0. Prairie View A&M is even more unforgiving in league play, allowed a SWAC-best 61.7 points per game to conference opponents.
- Andrus (14.0 PPG) – the league's leading shooter at 55.2% -- Patterson (13.1 PPG) and senior
Darius Williams (12.7 PPG) combine to average 39.8 points per game, making them the second-highest scoring trio in the SWAC. Each individual ranks within the top 15 as far as individual scorers in the conference.
- The Panthers are one of the most active defenses in the nation, ranking 16
th in the country in total steals (196) and 22
nd nationally in turnovers forced (18.4). Both figures lead the conference.
Scouting the Opposition:
- While one of the top teams in the league record-wise, Texas Southern has been susceptible to explosive offenses at times this season. The Tigers rank next-to-last in scoring defense (76.0 PPG allowed) among league teams.
- Texas Southern crashes the boards with the best of them, pacing the conference with a 38.8 boards per game average.
- Tyrik Armstrong is the top option for the Tigers offensively, averaging 13.8 points per game. Yahuza Rasas has flashed as a difference maker on the inside, averaging a shade under 10 points per game while ranking second in rebounding (8.2 RPG).
