BOX SCORE LORMAN, Miss. — The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped during a 80-71 loss to Alcorn State Thursday night during Southwestern Athletic Conference play at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

The Panthers (18-12, 14-3 SWAC) were slow out of the gate as the Braves scored 18 of the game's first 22 points. With Alcorn's offense on target early, the Panthers trailed by as many as 16 before Prairie View A&M's seniors powered a 14-5 close to the half, punctuated by a Chancellor Ellis three-ball at the buzzer to cut the deficit to eight.

Though Devonte Patterson dominated the second half, Prairie View A&M was never quite able to corral the Braves down the stretch. The Panthers found some juice in the second half down 47-38 with 15:12 left, using a 10-4 run to pull within four with 11:25 left.

Unfortunately, that was as close as the Panthers could get. Alcorn went on to boost its lead back to eight with just under eight minutes left to play, and a pair of Corey Tillery three-pointers allowed the Braves to rebuild its lead back to 13 with 3:09 left, a deficit that Prairie View A&M was unable to overcome.

Patterson led all players with 33 points and 10 rebounds. Darius Williams added 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Panthers managed to outshoot Alcorn State from the field, connecting on 43.1 percent (28-of-65) of their shots compared to the Braves' 42.3 percent mark, but PVAMU struggled from deep, going 4-of-22.

Alcorn held a plus-16 advantage from the foul line, going 27-of-35 from the stripe compared to the Panthers' 11-of-20 mark.

Maurice Howard led Alcorn with 22 points, five rebound, four assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Troymain Crosby added 19 points and nine boards.
