LORMAN, Miss. — A sluggish first quarter did in the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team during a hard 77-39 loss against Alcorn State during Southwestern Athletic Conference action Thursday evening in the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Panthers went 2-of-11 from the field and were outscored 23-4 in the first quarter. Prairie View picked up the energy in the second quarter, showing some fight as freshman
Kennedy Paul led a 15-6 run that allowed the Panthers to cut the deficit to 10 with 2:51 left in the half.
However, Alcorn pushed ahead before layups from freshman
Diana Rosenthal and senior
Mariah Campbell left the Panthers down 35-23 at the break.
Back to back jumpers from Paul looked to the Panthers started in the third quarter, but their offensive struggles left them ultimately unable to close the gap. The Lady Braves ultimately increased their lead to 20 going into the final quarter, where all of the Panthers' points came from the free-throw line.
Paul led the team with nine points, two rebounds and one block. Williams and Rosenthal posted seven points apiece.
