BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M women's basketball (1-5, 0-3 SWAC) dropped a hard-fought Southwestern Athletic Conference match to Texas Southern (2-1, 1-0 SWAC) 79-76 Monday evening at the Baby Dome.

How it Happened:
The Panthers found it hard to miss early on, attacking the Tigers' interior as Kennedi Heard and Jasmin Dixon led the offensive charge out of the gate. Though the Lady Tigers found success from the foul line, a 10-2 run down the stretch of the first quarter put Prairie View A&M up 18-11.

The Panthers stayed in the driver's seat as the second quarter began, with Tiffany Tullis doing the heavy lifting despite the Tigers' attempts to close the gap. Eventually, Texas Southern tied the game at 29 thanks to a three-pointer from Te'Aire Hambrick, who scored 11 points in the quarter. Kennedy Paul converted a pair of free-throws to push the Panthers back ahead, but the advantage was short-lived, as back-to-back buckets from Britnee Gabriel and another Hambrick trey sent PVAMU into the lockers down 36-31.

The Panthers struggled to make up ground during much of the third as the Tigers were able to convert several close-range buckets to push their lead to 11. However, TaMiracle Taylor helped spark a 10-4 PVAMU run to cut the deficit to five heading to the fourth. A Rachel Williams jumper to open the fourth put the Panthers within a bucket of tying the game, but the Tigers pushed their lead to nine midway through the fourth. Then, Allana Thompson capped a 10-0 surge that gave Prairie View A&M its first lead since the second quarter.

TSU responded with a quick five points but Prairie View A&M clawed back within a bucket. An open look to tie the game rattled out, and though Rosenthal forced a crucial turnover in the backcourt, time expired before she could get a shot off.

Top Performances:
Tullis scored 20 points and nabbed eight rebounds along with a pair of steals. Heard added 14 points and eight boards. Thompson chipped in 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
