PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (3-4, 2-0) looks to stay perfect in Southwestern Athletic Conference play as the Panthers hit the road to take on Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off versus the Delta Devils is set for 3 p.m. from the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex, and the Panthers face UAPB at 7:30 p.m. in the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Last Time Out:
> The Panthers took down Grambling State 59-50 on Jan. 18 behind Cam Mack's 15 points, six assists and four rebounds. Jawaun Daniels scored 11 points and grabbed nine boards, and Jerroda Briscoe swatted four shots.
Storylines to Watch:
> Mack has been one of the most consistent offensive options for the Panthers, having scored at least 14 points in each game he's played this year while tying for the league lead in assists per game at 7.0.
> Briscoe has been the driving force behind the league's No. 2 ranked shot-blocking unit, having swatted 1.7 shots a game.
> Though Prairie View A&M has been defined by frenzied defensive play, the Panthers' offense may be in line for a big weekend as UAPB and MVSU are the bottom two teams in the conference as far as points allowed per game.
Scouting the Opponents:
> Mississippi Valley State enters the contest still in search of its first win of the season. Though the Delta Devils have struggled to slow opposing offenses, they boast a productive trio in Devin Gordon, Terry Collins and Caleb Hunter, each of whom are averaging better than 11 points per game. MVSU is one of two teams in the SWAC with three players ranked in the top 15 of individual scoring leaders.
> UAPB is led by SWAC Player of the Year candidate Shaun Doss Jr., who leads the team in scoring at 17.9 points per game. The Golden Lions have been inconsistent as SWAC play has begun, as they've scored 90 points or more in their two conference wins only to be held to a combined 101 points in their two conference losses. The Golden Lions are one of the league's better free-throw and three-point shooting teams, ranking No. 2 in percentages for both categories.
