PRAIRIE VIEW – A monster first half from Jeremiah Gambrell helped power Prairie View A&M to a 73-56 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff during Southwestern Athletic Conference play Monday evening at H.O. Clemmons Arena. The victory is the fourth-straight for the Panthers.
How it Happened:
Simply put, the Golden Lions had no answer for Gambrell in the first half, as the sharpshooter caught fire within the opening minutes and buried a pair of threes as the Panthers scored 12 unanswered points to begin the contest. With the Panthers defense at its best – hounding UAPB into 11 turnovers and a 27.7 percent shooting clip during the opening period – Gambrell continued to cook the Lions' defense. In all, he nearly outscored UAPB on his own in the frame, dropping 19 points as PVAMU carried a 40-20 advantage into intermission.
The Panthers relied on balanced scoring and their defensive prowess the rest of the way, largely keeping the clamps on the Golden Lions while building their lead to as large as 30.
Notable Performances:
Gambrell ended his night with 20 points. Lenell Henry notched a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. D'Rell Roberts added 12 points. Cam Mack dished out nine assists to go with four points and three steals.
Next Up:
Prairie View A&M returns to friendly confines to face Alabama A&M on Jan. 30. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Baby Dome.
