LORMAN, Miss. – The  Prairie View A&M volleyball team (4-0, 3-0 SWAC) swept Alcorn State (0-1, 0-1 SWAC) in a Southwestern Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-23. 

How it Happened: 

Though not quite on-target early on, the Lady Panthers made things tough on Alcorn State, limiting the Lady Braves to an .028 attack percentage in set one Tied 8-8 early, the Lady Panthers surged ahead with a 7-1 run midway through, and Malia Viernes accounted for four of the Lady Panthers' final five points in the opening frame.

During a tight set two where the Lady Panthers briefly trailed, PVAMU put together an 11-5 spurt to go ahead 21-16 and withstood a late Alcorn charge to take the second set. Neither side gained much separation for the majority of the third set – which featured several ties and lead changes – but a kill by Breonna Fleming followed by a service ace from Miyuki Johnson and a block from Kimira Coffe gave Prairie View A&M a 20-17 advantage that proved to be enough cushion to hold off the Lady Braves' comeback efforts. 

Key Stats: 

Victoria Pearson led PVAMU with eight kills and four total blocks, and Thaynara Godoi added seven spikes. Jakarta Hope dished out 17 assists, and Miriam Cardoner chipped in 11 helpers. Defensively, Melanie Arenas led the way with 11 digs, and Skyla Childs put in 10 digs while Cardoner added seven.
