JACKSON, Miss. – A big effort from
Victoria Pearson wasn't enough for the Prairie View A&M volleyball team (4-1, 3-1 SWAC) to overcome Jackson State (3-0, 3-0 SWAC) in a Southwestern Athletic Conference road match Sunday evening. Set scores were 25-23, 25-23, 26-24.
How it Happened:
The Lady Panthers jumped ahead with an 8-3 lead in set one to begin the match, ultimately going ahead 15-10. Jackson State put together an 8-3 run of its own to tie the match at 18 before stealing the frame thanks to late miscues by Prairie View A&M.
A sluggish start proved costly during a tight set two, but the Lady Panthers refused to go quietly, battling Jackson State and ultimately pushing the Lady Tigers to the brink of a fourth set. However, PVAMU was unable to cash in on set point, as a service error followed by a pair of quick points from Jackson State ultimately ended the Lady Panthers' perfect start to the season.
Key Stats:
Pearson put away 14 kills on an impressive .632 attack percentage, and
Tamaira Armstrong added eight kills and four solo blocks.

Jylen Whitten accounted for 13 kills to lead Jackson State. Alexis Williams and Jordan Jones added 10 kills each. Marina Bianchi Brito posted five total blocks and three kills. Damassy Thompson and Dekyra Dennis combined for 34 assists, and Thompson added nine digs.
