Five Set Thriller Makes for an Impressive Comeback Win Over Southern

PRAIRIE VIEW - The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers comeback to get the win in a hard-fought five set bout, defeating Southern University 3-2, in a Sunday afternoon tilt at the William J. Nicks Building.

The Lady Panthers won the first set 25-16, before falling in the next two sets, 20-25, and 26-28.  Prairie View A&M rallied back to force a fifth set after taking set four 25-16 also taking set five for the 15-10 victory.

"A few of these sets that we won, we controlled [the pace] really well," head PVAMU volleyball Coach TaCho Tyler said. "The two sets that we lost, we let them control the pace, but I would say we came back in this fifth set and were able to pull out a win."

How it Happened:
It was back-and-forth early in the first set, but all that changed with the Lady Panthers going on a 6-0 run after being tied 8-8. They never looked back, leading by no less than five the rest of the way to take the set, 25-16.

PVAMU continued their efforts from the previous set starting out with four straight points. The Lady Jaguars, however, closed the gap to even the score at 15. Southern went on its own run of four straight points and managed to stay ahead, winning the set two 25-20.

Another string of four straight points to begin the set by the purple and gold turning a 9-2 start for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Jaguars once again clawed their way back into the set to make it 24-22. The Lady Panthers would come back with three straight points, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Jaguars won 28-26.

In a pivotal fourth set for Prairie View A&M, it was Southern who struck first with an 11-9 lead. From there, the Lady Panthers closed with a 16-5 run to put it in the bag, 25-16.

PVAMU took the final set 15-10 to cap off the comeback and win the match 3-2.
