Back-to-Back Wins for Volleyball as they Take Down Alcorn

PRAIRIE VIEW - In a rematch from earlier this season, the Prairie View A&M volleyball team took down the Lady Braves of Alcorn State 3-1 Monday evening at the William J. Nicks Building.

The Lady Panthers split the first two sets, 25-14, 23-25, before closing out in the third and fourth set 25-23, 25-13 to improve to 4-6 in conference play.

"Our offense has woken up and they're providing us with the points that we need to score," said PVAMU head volleyball coach TaCho Tyler. "I'm always preaching to them about going the extra mile". An extra mile or an extra point, both added up to another check in the win column for the Lady Panthers.

How it Happened:
In the opening set of the game, the Lady Panthers never allowed the Lady Braves to find their footing, scoring with ease and controlling the pace to a 25-14 win.

The next set proved contentious as both teams traded blows early on before the Lady Braves opened up a 10-2 run to lead by seven. Following a timeout, the Lady Panthers would go on their own run, scoring six unanswered points to cut the lead down to one. Once more the Lady Braves would extend their lead down the stretch and managed to withstand a late comeback attempt by PVAMU to take the set, 25-23.

Alcorn continued their momentum from before to take a 23-17 led in the third set. The Lady Braves never scored again as the Lady Panthers clawed their way back with eight straight points to claim this crucial set.

The Lady Panthers never trailed in the fourth, cruising to a 25-13 win to take the match.

Post-Game Notes:
  • Sanai Fitchett led both teams in blocks (5) and added nine kills for the Lady Panthers
  • Jakarta Hope had a game high 34 assists and three service aces
  • Caiya Artis paced the Lady Panthers with 17 digs and three blocks
  • With this win, Prairie View now holds a 18-1 record against the Lady Braves dating back to 2010
Prairie View A&M will end it's three-game home stretch with a bout against Texas Southern with the first serve set for 6 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 28th at the William J. Nicks Building.
