PRAIRIE VIEW - The Lady Panthers volleyball team took down the Lady Tigers of TSU in straight sets, to cap off a 3-game home stretch Thursday evening at the Williams J. Nicks Building.
The Lady Panthers took all three sets with similar scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-23.
"We're always talking about getting back to basics, controlling our side as opposed to what [the other team] is doing," said PVAMU head Volleyball coach
TaCho Tyler. "They have their backs against the wall and they're answering the call one game at a time."
How it Happened:
The Lady Tigers looked solid in the opening set, attacking vital areas of the floor for Prairie View, taking an 8-3 lead early in the set. Down by five, the Lady Panthers traded points with Texas Southern before going on a 7-0 tear that saw them tie and overtake the Lady Tigers 19-17 going into the final stretch. Tied at 23 apiece, it was Freshman
Kiersten Atkinson who made a big-time kill and an error from the Lady Tigers would seal the first.
In a mirror image of the previous set, the Lady Panthers fell behind early 1-8 to open the second frame. Following a timeout, PV put together mini runs of 3, 4, 5 straight points to, once again, secure a 19-17 lead deep in the set. A trio of costly errors by the Lady Tigers late gave PV the set and a 2-0 lead.
In a tightly-contested 3
rd set, the two teams took turns scoring against the other, neither team leading more than two points after being knotted at 12 a piece. Tied at 23, multiple kills by Sophomore
Sanai Fitchett and Junior
Kimira Coffee would give the Lady Panthers the match in 3 straight sets and their third straight win over a SWAC opponent.
Post-Game Notes:
-Atkinson led the way for the Lady Panthers with a game-high 13 kills
-
Alaiyah Fields (24) and
