PRAIRIE VIEW - In the quarterfinal opening match of the 2021 SWAC tournament, the #1 seed Prairie View took down the #8 Arkansas Pine-Bluff in a 4-0 rout to advance to the semifinals for the 2
nd time in three years.
How it Happened:
The Lady Panthers made sure to find the net early as 15 minutes into the contest, senior
JoJo Bernal buried a kick from 24 yards out to give PVAMU the early lead, 1-0.
18 minutes into the 2
nd half, the Lady Panthers put the exclamation on the game scoring three straight within six minutes to ice the game.
A streaking
Savannah Powell opened things up with the goal that slipped just inside the left corner of the goal off the assist by
Andrea Nugent from halfway across the field.
In the 64
th minute, it was Powell who scored once again, this time off the assist from teammate
Sonia Fuentes.
A penalty kick from A. Nugent a few minutes later barely edged out the Golden Lion's goalkeeper for another goal by the Lady Panthers to give them the 4-0 win.
Post-Game Notes:
-Bernal's goal makes six on the season. She leads the team in goals scored.
-Powell's two goals mark the 2
nd time this season a Lady Panther scored multiple goals.
-A. Nugent is the first Lady Panther to record a goal and assist in the same game.
-Dating back to 2012 the Lady Panthers hold a 9-2 record in this series, including a current 4-game win streak
