Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer Advances to Championship to Face Grambling State

PRAIRIE VIEW - For the second time in three seasons, the Lady Panthers advance to the finals of the SWAC Tournament, following a 3-0 victory against Alabama State.

Prairie View A&M was originally projected to finish 5th in SWAC and now sits one game away from adding another SWAC title.

"We're still not done; we've got one more game to take care of" said PVAMU head soccer Coach Sonia Curvelo. "I'm happy with the execution we've had in the first two games but [right now] we're focused on the next game."

How it Happened:
Early and often was the game plan for the Lady Panthers today, scoring less than 30 seconds into the first match of the semifinals, setting the tone for the game versus Alabama State.

Adding to yesterday's two-goal performance, Powell added another goal off the pass from teammate Sonia Fuentes.

Advancing up the left part of the field, green grass ahead and only the goalkeeper in front, Powell won the face-off squeezing the ball into the bottom of the net for the early 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the game.

The Lady Panthers piled on to their lead midway through the first with goals by Lesa Griffin in the 22nd minute, on the assist by Regan Scott, and Jaiden Morgan at the 29:53 mark, scoring her 2nd goal of the season off the assist from Savannah Powell.

The score would stand until the end of the first half and all of the second as the Lady Panthers closed the game out, 3-0.

Post-Game Notes:
-Following the win, PV has not allowed a single goal so far in the SWAC Tournament, outscoring their opponents 7-0 through the first two games
-Prairie View has out-shot its opponents 25-11 to begin the first two games of the SWAC Tournament
-Powell continues her breakout performance in the SWAC Tournament, scoring another goal in the postseason. She now has three goals in the tournament and ties senior JoJo Bernal (6) for most goals by a Lady Panther this season

Next Up:

PVAMU will take on last season's runner-up Grambling State in the Finals of the SWAC Tournament. That game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, Sunday, November 7th, at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
