PRAIRIE VIEW – A dominant second half was the difference for the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (7-4, 6-0 SWAC), who pushed aside Alabama State 87-63 for its sixth-straight win Monday evening during Southwestern Athletic Conference action in the Baby Dome.
How it Happened:
Alabama State began the game on a 10-1 run before the Panthers aided by a pair of three-pointers, but slick passes by
Cam Mack led to a pair of jams as PVAMU began to find its footing. The Hornets continued to stay ahead until Mack buried a three-ball to spark a 7-0 run that pushed the Panthers up 23-20 with 8:53 left in the first half.
The sides would trade points but the Panthers stayed ahead, taking a 37-30 lead to the lockers. Out of the break, Prairie View A&M stormed to a lead as large as 19 points behind its trademark aggressive defense that held Alabama State without a field goal for the first for the first 6:30 of the second half. The Panthers continued to apply pressure to the Hornets, keeping them in check the rest of the way.
Key Stats:
Mack led PVAMU with 24 points, nine assists and three steals. Roberts put up 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Jawaun Daniels scored 14 points – 13 in the second half – and grabbed seven boards.
