CORPUS CHRISTI – The Prairie View A&M men's and women's tennis teams each fell in doubleheader action at Texas A&M-Corups Christi. The women dropped consecutive 7-0 matches while the men were upended 6-1.
Results:
Jorge Juarez Caballero continued his tear in singles play, picking up a pair of three-set victories. Caballero took down Ryuya Ata 0-6, 6-3, 10-8 and continued through the day with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-3 win over Kyohei Yamanaka. However, he was the lone bright spot for the Panthers on the day, who were swept in doubles action and unable to rebound in singles play.
On the women's side, it was tough sledding through the day against the Islanders. Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo nearly picked up a singles win in a hard-fought No. 1 singles match, but it was not to be during a 3-6, 6-4, 5-10 match. In doubles play, Ruju Chauhan and Claudia Andrea Islas Medina pushed Corpus-Christi but the match was unfinished as Corpus Christi clinched the doubles point before the match could be decided. In all, the Lady Panthers weren't able to get much going through the rest of their respective matches.
Match Notes:
- Caballero has won five straight singles matches dating back to Jan. 20.
- The Panther men and women return to action Feb. 5 at Incarnate Word. PVAMU will play away from friendly confines for the remainder of the month.
