BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M women's track program showed up and showed out on day two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, winning the crown for the first time since 1989.
The Lady Panthers scored 172 points, easily outdistancing defending champion Alabama State (141.5). UAPB (90.5), Southern (55) and Alabama A&M (49) rounded out the top five.
Kaizha Roberts was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer for the meet, winning the long jump and taking the silver medal in the triple jump and 60 meter dash. PVAMU Head Coach
Angela Williams was named the conference's coach of the year.
Individual Results:
- Senior Ja'Sha Sloan did what she does best, successfully defending her SWAC high jump championship with a mark of 1.73 meters.
- The Lady Panthers dominated the long jump, with Roberts successfully defending her crown with a leap of 6.02m. Sophomore Mia Heard (5.70m) finished second. Katherine Jackson (5.59m) finished fifth, and Devynn King (5.46m) finished eighth.
- Sophomore Maci Guy brought back a silver medal in the pole vault. Teammates Jaida Payne and Jacari Tate followed behind, placing third and fourth, respectively.
- Roberts followed up her long jump performance with second place finishes in both the triple jump and 60m dash.
- In the 60-meter hurdles, the duo of Dominique Ellis and Erykah Byias set personal bests as they placed third and seventh, respectively.
- The Devereaux sisters, Sydney and Shelby took the middle-distance events by storm, taking the gold and bronze medals home, respectively. Teammate Dinah Murphy had a second-place finish in the 800 while Sydney came across the line fourth, and Shelby finished seventh.
- Alicia Carter had a strong run in the 200, giving her second while teammate Asjah Harris came in the eighth. Carter also placed third in the 400 followed by freshman Jordan Deadwyler, who finished fifth
- Junior Helen Roddy earned the top spot in both the 3000 and 5000, taking home both gold medals
- The quartet of Carter, Murphy, Deadwyler and Jai'Lynn Smith placed fifth in the 4X400 relay.
