PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (10-4, 9-0 SWAC) heads east for the final road trip of the regular season to face Alabama A&M (February 27, 6 p.m.) and Alabama State (March 1, 8 p.m.) in a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference games.
Last Time Out:
> The Panthers used a second-half surge to push aside Mississippi Valley State 82-62. Jawaun Daniels posted 20 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Cam Mack scored 13 points with six assists and six steals. Boe Nguidjol and Faite Williams scored 11 points each, with Williams adding eight assists. Lenell Henry added 10 points and nine rebounds (seven offensive).
Storylines to Watch:
> Mack has posted six or more assists in 10 of 11 games this season.
> Daniels has scored in double figures in five straight games.
> PVAMU has won eight straight over Alabama A&M and have won eight of their last nine over the Hornets. However, the Panthers lost their last road outing at Alabama State 52-49 (February 1, 2020).
Scouting AAMU:
> Alabama A&M boasts one of the better duos in the conference thanks to Jalen Johnson (17.9 PPG, 6.9 RPG) and Garrett Hicks (12.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG). The Bulldogs have been largely unstoppable on their home floor at 5-0 on the season. AAMU crashes the boards as well as anyone in the league, ranking second in rebounds per game at 38.8.
Scouting ASU:
> Alabama State sits at 4-10 on the season and looks to bounce back from close losses at Southern and Alcorn State. The top options for the Hornets will be Brandon Battle (12.2 PPG, 7.4 RPG) and Kenny Strawbridge (10.2 PPG, 7.5 RPG). DJ Heath is the team's leading distributor, averaging nearly 10 points, three rebounds and three assists per game.
