D'IBERVILLE, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M bowling team opened day one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Bowling Roundup from USA Bowl with a 3-2 record. PVAMU ended the day with an 11-4 mark in league play through 15 matches, remaining tied for first in the league while leading in total pin count over that span.

"We felt coming into this Round Up that it would be tough, and that's what it was today," PVAMU Head Bowling Coach Glenn White said. "Almost every match was a grind. We expect the same tomorrow. If we focus on making sure we're closing frames and keeping our consistency, we have a chance at success."

The Lady Panthers opened competition by cruising past Alabama A&M 934-768, but dropped a pair of close ones to Jackson State (901-913) and Alabama State (854-882). Prairie View A&M rebounded to finish on a positive note, defeating Grambling State 743-626 and taking down Texas Southern with its best outing of the day, a 941-871 win.

Freshman Cheyenne Washington led the way with an average pinfall of 203.4 – good for second in East Roundup-only individual standings – followed by junior Crystal Cline, who posted an average of 200.5 and stands second in combined individual standings with an average pinfall of 201.74. Asia Wren and reigning SWAC Bowler of the Year Patricia Rosales each posted averages of 180, good for top 10 standings through the East Roundup.

PVAMU is back in action Saturday.
