PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M softball team fell to Tarleton State 11-3 and 11-2 Wednesday during doubleheader action at the PVAMU Softball Complex.
How it Happened:
GAME 1 (Tarleton won 11-3; F/6): Down 2-0 early, the Lady Panthers tied things up in the second inning thanks to a RBI single from
Cameron Lavergne and a RBI groundout that scored
Serena Antone. The Texans added another run in the top of the third, but Antone responded with a towering shot to left field to make it 3-3.
However, Tarleton State managed to get the long ball going as the game progress, hitting four of their five home runs in the game – three of them scored multiple runs – over the next three innings to take the upper hand for good.
GAME 2 (Tarleton won 11-2): Similar to game one, the Lady Panthers fell behind early thanks to the long ball but responded in the bottom of the second inning. There,
Jadyn Mason singled through the right side to score
Maddison Parker, and
Destinee Smith later drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game. However, the Panthers weren't able to push any more runners across and following the missed opportunity, the Texans scored nine unanswered runs the rest of the way.
Key Stats:
Lavergne picked up four hits in six at-bats, including a 3-for-3 day in game two. Antone, Parker and Natalie McLennan each had a pair of hits in game one.
Freshman
Mya Hall tied a career-high in strikeouts with four during her game two start.
