BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (16-5) saw its NCAA tournament hopes dashed by Texas Southern in the finals of the 2021 Cricket Wireless SWAC Tournament. The Panthers fell 80-61.

How it Happened:

A back-and-forth battle early, the Panthers were in the driver's seat but couldn't quite build a comfortable lead over their arch-rivals. After a Faite Williams jumper made it 14-8, the Tigers tied the game with a 6-0 run. Jawaun Daniels responded with five quick points, only for Texas Southern to battle back.

Cam Mack buried a jumper to make it 24-24 with 5:02 left in the half, but the Panthers found themselves on the wrong end of a 12-4 run that resulted in a 36-28 deficit at the break.

From that point, Prairie View A&M never recovered as the Tigers opened on a 9-0 run to surge ahead by 17. With the Panthers failing to get its offense on track, the Tigers pulled away down the stretch.

Key Stats:
Williams scored a team-best 14 points, followed by Daniels with 13. D'Rell Roberts chipped in 10 points. The Tigers had five players in double-figures, led by Joirdon Karl Nicholas' 16-point effort.

Next Up:
The Panthers have concluded their season, one with several highlights including a pair of All-SWAC players in Mack and Daniels as well as Byron Smith winning SWAC Coach of the Year for the third year in a row. The Panthers are projected to return this year's team as is next season, positioning themselves as a championship contender entering next season.
